Doshas in General
As I try to simplify the condition, let us start with pain. We have to know Vata the principle as ayurveda see the human at a functional aspect. The elemental configuration stays with dominance of Air and Space element. When on a normal function, would give energy, positiveness, all functions related to respiratory system, different actions-both on micro and macroscopic level, movements and functions related to natural urges, the proper and harmonious functions of different tissue systems and their metabolic activities etc, the sense organs to perform etc.
Pita, the elemental configuration is Fire and Water dominance. Responsible for all the digestive and metabolic activities in every dimensions, the heat and temperature management functions, related in many ways to eye, thirst, hunger, appetite, the charm of the body, intelligence and related mental functions, courage, softness of the body etc.
Kapha, the elemental configuration is Water and Earth dominance. Responsible for stability and structural strength, oiliness of the body in general and deeper aspects, strength and stability of the joints, strength in general.
From the above aspects, we can see the body in every sense, how does it performs the physical, chemical, and biological activities.. We can see the whole human system through the three filters of Doshas( Vata, Pita, Kapha).
Considering Migraine, the most dominant problem is the pain. According to ayurveda, with out Vata there is no pain. Vata is the factor, responsible for the movement with out it the other functions from Pita and Kapha would not be possible. We also have to consider, since the universe is a different combination of Five Elements, there is no situation in any sense, which is attributed by one Dosha. The dominance pertain to Vata, but there will be association of Pita and Kapha. This depends on different pathological grounds and Prakriti. So the quality and minute details of the symptoms associated would also be different. There is the difference of Ayurveda, it says different modalities of treatment to the same disease, when it comes to different individual. Factors under consideration will be- the metabolic/ digestive aspects, toxin level(āma), strength of the disease and individual, time(the occurrence , duration of the symptoms, time frame etc ), age, food habits, the used to kind of activities in all aspects etc.
General Pathology of Diseases of Head
Air pollution, too much sun, cold, over use of water activities, too much sleeping or less sleep, sweating of head, stress and related conditions, holding of tear, too much water intake, alcohol over use, infections, blocking natural urges, not being tidy and clean- both internal and external, reduced oil application body, use of computer or activities similar where the person has to look downwards for a longer period of time, digestive disturbances, talking on loud voice for longer time etc. Because of these factors, the Doshas get vitiated with the dominance of Vata reaches head to create the pathological process.
Ayurvedic Treatment Principle
The most important difference, from the Ayurvedic view point is we treat the patient. Not the disease. Our major priority becomes: why the patient at this age, history, Prakriti, habits, activities etc is suffering form Migraine. So the treatment principles and modalities would be different.
Our lines of approach.
1.Correcting the underlying pathology respectively
Using herbal medicine to correct - digestive and metabolic aspects which includes some kind of detoxifying treatments etc.
Treatments like Shirodhara, external herbal application, Nasya etc would be used accordingly
2.Using specific herbal combinations to address the personal condition
Guluchyadi kashayam, Amrithotharam, Pathyashadangam etc.
These would be selected according to the chronic nature of the disease, associated pathologies etc.
Colonic Irrigation, Virechanam, Vamanam etc.
Herbal medicines, optimised with Ghee or some other preparations would be used to regain the systemic balance, healing the tissue or cellular level damage and functional harmony.
